Breakaway 10K Takes FIRST to the Streets

It was a cold November morning as 160 runners lined up to "break away" from the competition. With Breakaway members scattered throughout the course directing runners and working aid stations, it was sure to be a wonderful day. We have been hosting the Breakaway 10k for a number of years. It is now an Arkansas Grand Prix race with runners from all around the state.

It was great to see parents, team members, and alumni alike banding together to provide this race for our community. As a first-year member on our team, I learned a lot about how Breakaway spreads FIRST awareness in our community in such a unique way. The runners inspired us as they shouted encouraging words as they were running by, and they were the ones who were supposed to be tired!

Being able to help with the Breakaway 10k this year was a great opportunity to not only spread FIRST awareness but also to bond together as a team. I am looking forward to next year’s Breakaway 10k as we continue to educate our community and our state about FIRST.
