The Ozark Mountain Brawl Lands in Deep Space

On September 27-28, Breakaway hosted and ran the oldest off-season FIRST event, the Ozark Mountain Brawl. It was a huge success this year with 15 teams, two countries, and about 600 people attending.

OMB began on Friday afternoon when we held the OMB Skills Challenges. No other competition has this unique addition. The events were so much fun and every team enjoyed playing. Below is a list of the teams that won individual challenges.

After the challenges, we played Destination Deep Space, the 2019 game. We had five alliances, and the finalists were teams 16 Bombsquad, 323 Lights Out, and 6640 Metal Eagles. Congratulations to these three Arkansas teams for their outstanding performances!

We sent out an anonymous survey to each coach and had wonderful responses. This is what they had to say:

“Favorite: Skills challenges. We encourage our newest members to come to this event to get some time with our robot. This year we also used the time to train a new field coach, engineer, and human player. We are not there to win. We just want our kids to be able to try out anything new they want to do.”

“Very fun, relaxed event. Regionals/World are so busy and serious, off-season provides us time to enjoy the event and hang out with other teams.”

“We love this experience and plan to return in 2020.”

“The #1 reason I travel to OMB every year is to interact with Breakaway. You guys are truly a model team with first-class students and mentors. Thank you guys so much for hosting a great event.”

Ozark Mountain Brawl is an event near and dear to Breakaway’s heart, and we greatly appreciate every volunteer and sponsor that made it happen. Through this event our team is able to focus on growing FIRST programs in our region.

Thank you to our Sponsors!
